Snowshoeing in the Rockies

A gear junkies’ perspective

Picture1

You don’t have to be Nostradamus to realize that this time of the year means SNOW….and lots of it.

Every chance I get I’m out going as fast as I can downhill, or as fast as I can across country. Last weekend it was snowshoeing time and I needed to upgrade my gear to make it as sweet as possible.

I love outdoor gear!

A new knife, an awesome new backpack, gloves, or even new arrows.  There is something about getting new toys that makes me want to get out there and play.  And that’s exactly what I did last weekend after talking to the team at Tactical Gear Experts (TGE).

After looking through my wardrobe and garage, I decided to have a complete revamp of everything – base layers, shirts, pants, boots, gloves, pack….. everything except the snowshoes. And the TGE team came through in spades.

The 5:11 Amp 12 Backpack 25L had a lot of room for rations, blanket and spare clothes in case needed.  Comfortable to carry and exterior attachments for clipping gear on. The Preston jacket was light, but super warm and the XPRT boots are the most comfortable I own.

The 5.11 Apex Pants were perfect for me (6’7’’ & long legs – great for basketball, but not always great when getting pants that fit!)  The stretch waist band allows for flexibility in tough places and the rugged material protects from brush rub.  Very impressed with the Apex pant.  It has become my everyday go-to pant.

Gloves, beanies, T-Shirts – I was covered head-to-toe and ready to rip. I headed to Breckenridge, CO to get some mountain air and put my new gear to the test and ready to withstand the elements of the Rocky Mountain winter.  The snow was deep in the woods and the weather was nice which was great for a snowshoe outing.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the gear but TGE was right again!

It was everything they described and more.  My assessment of the TGE approach has been nothing short of “I’m impressed!”  Each adventure I undertake requires my kit to withstand the elements, be comfortable and have a true athletic fit.  The gear from the most recent 5.11 product line exceeded all of these requirements.

My advice…… get outdoors and enjoy, but if you are going to do it, do it right. Speak to TGE and it will turn an average day into a day to remember.

Until next time……..
